Keyword Research Guide for Beginners
Keyword Research Guide for Beginners |
A. Definition:
Research: the process of searching, collecting, sorting and selecting a search engine phrase (google, bing, baidu, excite, etc.).
Keywords: all forms of input, both text and audio that are entered by visitors to search engines.
B. Benefits and Weaknesses:
Benefits of keyword research:
- Make it easier for you to design your website as a whole
- Facilitate content writing.
- Increase website conversions.
- Filter quality traffic.
- Improve the quality of your website in the eyes of Google
While the weakness lies in the processing of the keyword research
- Very tiring and
- The result is not necessarily what we expected.
Why? The reason is simple: your competitors will not stay silent / they will also maintain and if they can improve their position.
C. Mindset and Social Sacrifice
It's a matter of Mindset and Capital.
Remember: ALL keywords are viable and can be pursued as long as you can afford it! So there is no such thing as heavy or light keywords.
Some of the main considerations here include: aged domain, hosting, backlinks, premium tools, articles, money, time, skills and mentality.
D: Setting Targets:
The targets here are four in focus:
- Position: Position in search engines like Page 1 Number 5.
- Time: The length of time it takes your website to get the ranking position you want.
- Capital / Business: Availability of capital / business that you provide to achieve the ideal position.
- Conversion: The amount of conversion that occurs as you predict regardless of position, time and capital/effort.
E. Define Conversion:
NOT all keywords are equal. Not all keywords have the same weight. The only standard determining the 'success' of a keyword is conversion.
That is how much 'visitor action' you expect to happen while on your website.
There are many types of conversions, including:
- Click to PPC ADS
- Buy
- Subscribe
- Browsing
- Comment / Share
- Impression
- Click to non-PPC ads
- Leads
- Branding / Awareness
- Looking at Competitors:
Obviously there ARE competitors waiting for you on the Search Engines. The better a keyword, the tougher the competition.
Try to see your competitors through the keywords you want to target. Don't be lazy just open page 1. Do it until page 10.
By knowing who your competitors will be, you will know how 'heavy your burden' will be.
Some things you need to pay attention to here are:
- Authority website
- Website News
- Website Marketplace
- Official / Governmental Website
- Personal Website
- Website Winners/Losers
- AGC Website
- Website Spamming
- Fresh Websites
- And of course your own website!
G. Avatar / Intention Visitor:
The amount of conversion is often determined by your visitor's avatar or the cool term traffic demographics.
Demographic elements include:
- Gender
- Age
- Work
- Device: Desktop / Smartphone
- Browsing time
- Social media preferences
- Income
- Education
- Buying Power
- Location
All of these demographic elements HIGHLY determine your success in choosing the keywords you want to pursue.
So I suggest, finish this avatar PR first before you start the keyword research step.
H. Kinds of Keywords:
There are many kinds of keywords, here are some of them:
1. Evergreen / forever.
- Ex: how to shrink the stomach
2. Seasonal / season limited
- Ex: boys santa claus clothes
3. Recycling / will appear in a certain period
- Ex: Lung Function Human Biology Theme Book Page 76
4. Product Related / related products
- Ex: Samsung 32 inch LED TV
5. Comparison / Comparison
- Ex: Advantages of Fortuner vs Alphard
6. Bulk-in/Large Volume
- Ex: Philips AC distributor
7. Location / related location
- Ex: Nike 'Model' Shoes COD Jakarta
8. Trending / One time search
- Ex: Live Streaming Indonesia vs MU
9. Review / Reviews
- Ex: Levidio The Feed Review
I. Selecting Keywords
First understand what type of conversion you want to pursue, then it's just a technical and capital issue.
In this section you mostly have to use free / paid tools, such as Keyword Planner, Ahrefs, Spyfu, Ubersuggest etc, otherwise your hands can get curly.
Again, here: ALWAYS REMEMBER Point C above.
- Number of searches per month. The ideal number is a minimum of 10,000 searches that are worth pursuing.
- Competition. See Point F.
- AllinTitle: Ideally no more than 25,000 because all bloggers will definitely not miss this position.
- AllinURL: just at 5,000, you have to be brave because only those who are SEO literate are aware of this.
- Keywords In Articles. If you smell the ideal keyword density (2-5%) be careful! Use the "keyword" flag in the search bar.
- Aged Domain: It's all about Money!
- Hosting: ditto #6.
- Backlinks: Money Rules! You can peek at the type and volume of backlinks with paid tools like Ahrefs.
J. ADVICE: So what keywords should I choose?
This is a frequently asked question in DMs. I usually answer:
- If you are just learning - any keywords! LET them bleed first
- Choose keywords that are in line with the general theme of your web so that your web authority can mature quickly.
- Availability of information in offline / online. This will make it easier to research and write articles.
- Choose keywords that have a big conversion effect
- Answer #4 is usually located in longtail keywords
- AND has many derivatives (see Google suggestion list)
- Can you write! Nonsense research only if in the end you can't put it in the form of a seo-friendly article.
K. Execution:
Keyword research without execution is like a married person without ML - wasteful.
It's important I include this so that you have a broader perspective and don't just stop at keyword research and leave it.

L. Maintenance:
Is your job done? Not yet Bambang! Don't think that after writing an article, your task is complete? Sneaking in the Search Engines is easy,
but maintaining a position so that it doesn't slide or sink is more tiring because you're not the only one targeting the keyword research.
M. Tabulation:
After you finish the homework above, you should discipline yourself by making your work easier.
Tabulation is presenting all the keyword research data in an Excel table so that you can easily manage your web as a whole.
This tab is also useful if you employ an SEO Team.
O. Closing
So, do you still want to research Bambang's keywords? ️
Of course you have your own 'approach' in keyword research, this is just a reference.
Hope it is useful.
