Jakarta - PT PLN (Persero) is ready to supply green electricity for electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers who are building factories in Indonesia. Currently, PLN has a new renewable energy (EBT)-based power plant with an installed capacity of 9 gigawatts (GW) whose capacity will increase to 29 GW by 2030.

The President Director of PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo, explained that the installed power would be able to meet the electricity needs of the green industry. This is also in line with the government's plan to develop Green Industrial Estates in a number of areas in the country.

"Currently all industries are moving towards environmentally friendly-based energy. Through the General Plan for the Provision of Green Electricity (RUPTL) launched in 2021, PLN is ready to support industries in Green Industrial Estates through EBT plants," said Darmawan in a written statement, Monday (4/4). /4/2022).

This year, PLN will increase the installed capacity of the NRE power plant by 228 MW. The environmentally friendly power plants consist of a PLTP of 45 MW, PLTA, and PLTM 178 MW as well as a 5 MW bioenergy power plant.

Apart from the supply side, Darmawan explained that in supporting the development of the green industry in Indonesia, PLN also opens opportunities for cooperation in carbon trading through the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC).

"REC is the most important instrument in reducing emissions. This collaboration is clear evidence that the industrial sector plays an extraordinary role in the renewable energy transition," he said.

REC is proof that PLN has realized cooperation in fulfilling electricity from EBT-based plants. He explained that the REC purchase contract with a cooperation duration of 1-5 years would also have a positive impact on the industry.

"Customers get a procurement option to fulfill the target of 100 percent use of NRE that is transparent and internationally recognized and without spending investment costs for infrastructure development," he explained.

Not only that, the industry has also proven its existence in contributing to reducing carbon emissions from EBT plants in Indonesia. The REC purchase contract has an impact on the government that drives the energy transition towards carbon neutral 2060. The massive REC purchase contract is expected to encourage the growth of the national renewable energy market so as to accelerate the achievement of the energy mix target.

"We are very open to other companies who want to contribute to the use of green energy by utilizing this REC," he said.
