Formula E Rules, Races Are Time Restricted 45 Minutes Do Not Count Laps
Formula E Rules, Races Are Time Restricted 45 Minutes Do Not Count Laps |
Formula E's rules are unique in that the races are time-limited. Not using the lap count as is the case in Formula 1.
The city of Jakarta is preparing to host the Formula E race which is scheduled to take place at the Ancol Circuit on Saturday, June 4, 2022.
For people who want to enjoy this international race, it is better to know the rules first.
Formula E racing is known for having a number of unique features. One of them is the use of the "45 minutes plus 1" race format.
That means the race is timed for 45 minutes. Once the duration ends, each racer still has the opportunity to do 1 more lap before finally finishing.
The application of the "45 minutes plus 1" race format has something to do with the battery capacity used by Formula E racing cars.
Fanboost and Attack Mode
Not only that, the rules of Formula E also have another uniqueness. For example, there is Fanboost which can be likened to additional energy for racers.
Not all have it, Fanboost is only owned by 5 racers. The determination is based on a survey conducted on the Formula E website before the race.
Fanboost will provide additional energy of 25 kW which can be used for 5 seconds. This ability can only be used once in a race, precisely after the race lasts more than 20 minutes.
The additional energy from Fanboost will be very useful when a racer wants to overtake the rival in front of him.
Then there is also what is called the Attack Mode. Unlike Fanboost, all racers can activate Attack Mode, but only at predetermined trajectory points.
Uniquely, the activation point for Attack Mode is announced just moments before the race starts. That way each team must immediately calculate its strategy.
Activating Attack Mode will also provide additional energy of 25 kW for a while.
Spectators can tell which racer is activating Fanboost or Attack Mode by the lights that surround the halo (the shield on the top of the rider).
If the purple light is on, it means the racer is using Fanboost. Meanwhile, the Attack Mode is marked with a red light.
