Indonesia will implement a contactless toll payment system without the need to stop again. Payments do not need to use an e-toll card anymore, as a substitute for toll transactions using an application on a cellphone. Toll transactions will use the multi lane free flow (MLFF) system.
The application is called Cantas. Emil Iskandar, a representative of PT Roatex Indonesia Toll System (RITS), which is working on the MLFF project in Indonesia, said that toll road transactions using a mobile phone application are the first in the world.
"We can be proud because indeed this is the first technologically implemented in the world, even based on an application for the payment system, the latest information until 2021 is still the first in the world, I don't know maybe there will be February (2022) which I don't know But when it is launched later, the MLFF application-based toll transaction payment system has not been used in other countries," said Emil in the INSTRAN FGD with the theme 'Implementation of Fines in MLFF Implementation' which was held virtually.
Indeed, in several countries, such as in Europe, a non-stop toll transaction system has been implemented. But, they do not use the application on the phone. Abroad, toll transactions without stopping use the on board unit (OBU).
"OBUs that are physically available abroad are expensive, we make a solution called Electronic On-Board Unit (E-OBU), by downloading an application, there is already a built-in OBU in the application, so users don't have to buy OBU.
